I've finally worked through the due dates for the assignments we've gotten in the past week. They're mostly correct. We have a couple of weird factors for assignments this semester. One is the extra A-day to compensate for all the time we missed due to the PSAT. The other is Thanksgiving break--which splits up an A day and a B day that would otherwise be paired together. Magic has to happen around these to make assignment due dates work out.
Anyway. The things you care about. The dates:
-Everything on your 2nd six weeks calendar is correct.
-The dates for the vocab. quiz (Oct. 21/22) are correct.
-The final draft of the College Application Essay will be due Oct. 30 for B day kids and Nov. 2 for A day kids. We talked about this in class and I sent an email to this effect last week.
-The Donne Poem Literary Analysis will be due on Oct. 23 for A day and Oct. 27 for B day. I know this gap is a little weird, but it's necessary so that I can actually grade these things and get them back to you. And we all suffer equally by the end of the semester; I promise.
-The Best Books book and partner choice should be done by Oct. 21/22. Remember that you have to get these approved by me. That's a quick and informal process, but don't assume that you can pick a book and run with it without talking to me. On this note, once you have a book approved, get a copy of that book as quickly as possible! Most of these are readily available at Half Priced Books. You can also find or purchase electronic copies of most of them.
-Be finished reading your novel by Nov. 18/19. These dates haven't changed.
-Turn in your Sources Sheet by Nov. 18/19. These dates haven't changed.
-Turn in your outline on Nov. 23/24. These are the two days before Thanksgiving break. If you won't be in class on the day your outline is due, turn it in beforehand. (Oh, and these dates are the same as what you have on your assignment sheet, already.)
-The Rough Draft due date for your Best Books project has changed. Turn in your rough draft (a major grade) by Dec. 2/3. This is a little earlier than the previous dates, but I've managed to give you more work time than I'd previously scheduled, so hopefully it balances out.
-Your final Best Books essay (this is your final exam grade) is due on Dec. 11/14. We'll start presentations on these days, as well.
Please update your planners accordingly. And thank you for your patience!
