I came upon this speech a few years ago and was struck by how perfectly it matched our studies during the first nine weeks of English IV. Shakespeare is here, obviously--but also W;t and a possible answer to The Pedagogy of the Oppressed. Although it's published as an article, the author, Scott L. Newstok, originally wrote it as a commencement speech for college freshmen--in other words, you in less than a year. It is, I think, an important addition to the things we've been discussing. I'm going to ask you to write a little in response, but we'll do that in paper copy rather than on the website.
Thanks, Mrs. Swan

AuthorChristina Swan teaches AP English IV to seniors at the Liberal Arts and Science Academy, in Austin, Texas. In her free time, she likes to watch sci fi shows on netflix. Over the summer she wrote some articles and gave some presentations in a desperate attempt to get media badges to some science fiction conventions. She also taught herself how to sew pants and build bookcases. Archives
